A delay that never quite commits — phaser, reverb, or echo, never only one.

Sfumato — the painter’s technique of blurring one form into the next — is a liminal delay: a delay line passed through a modulated cascade of all-pass stages. Few stages and short times read as phaser or clean delay; many stages smear into a reverb-like wash, so one control set morphs continuously across delay ↔ phaser ↔ reverb. The magic is the smooth morph, not any one mode.
